Privacy Policy
Your privacy matters to us. This page explains in plain language what we collect, why we collect it and what you can do about it.
1. Who we are
Provewise (“Provewise”, “we”, “us”, “our”) runs the website at provewise.com, where learners practise Excel, SQL and Power BI on real business problems and work through business case studies. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and the choices you have.
By creating an account or using Provewise you confirm that you have read this policy. If you do not agree with it, please do not use the service.
2. Information we collect
Information you give us
| What | When |
|---|---|
| Full name, email address and password | When you create an account |
| Profile picture (optional) | If you choose to add one to your profile |
| Name, email address, topic and message | When you send us a message through the Contact page |
| Your answers and work: formulas and spreadsheet content, SQL queries, Power BI files you upload, typed answers and case study answers | When you check or submit an answer |
Information created as you practise
- Your scores, points, attempts, accuracy, time spent, hints used and progress on each problem.
- Bookmarks, badges you earn, and the history of problems you have solved.
- Activity information such as the dates you practise, used for streaks and your dashboard.
Technical information
Like most websites, our servers receive standard technical data when you visit, such as your IP address, browser and device type, pages requested and the time of the request. We use it to keep the service running, fix problems and protect it from misuse.
We do not ask for payment card details, government identity numbers or other sensitive personal data, and you should not include them in your answers or messages.
3. How we use your information
- To create and manage your account, and to sign you in.
- To check your answers, calculate your score and show your result.
- To show your dashboard, analytics, badges and history, and to rank learners on the leaderboard.
- To reply to messages you send us and to send you service emails you need, such as a password reset email.
- To maintain, secure and improve Provewise, including fixing errors and understanding which features are used.
- To prevent misuse and to meet our legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your answers or personal information to show you third-party advertising.
4. Why we are allowed to use it
We use your information because it is needed to provide the service you asked for (your account and practice records), because you have given us your consent (for example, when you add a profile picture or contact us), because we have a legitimate interest in running and protecting a safe service, or because the law requires it.
5. What other learners can see
Provewise has a leaderboard. If you have an account, your display name, profile picture (if you added one), points, problems solved and accuracy may be shown to other signed-in learners. Your email address, password and detailed answers are never shown on the leaderboard. If you do not want your real name displayed, you can use a nickname as your account name.
6. Who we share information with
We share personal information only when it is necessary to run the service, and only with:
- Service providers who help us host the website, store data and send emails. They may only use the information to provide services to us.
- Google Fonts, which delivers the typefaces used on our pages. When a page loads, your browser contacts Google to fetch the fonts, so Google may receive your IP address and browser details. See Google’s Privacy Policy.
- Authorities or advisers, if we are required by law, or need to protect our rights, users or the public.
- A successor organisation, if Provewise is ever merged with or taken over, in which case this policy will continue to protect your information.
7. Where your information is processed
Our service providers may process information in countries other than your own. Where that happens we take reasonable steps so that your information stays protected in line with this policy.
8. How long we keep it
We keep your account and practice records for as long as your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal information within a reasonable time, except where we must keep some of it to meet legal obligations, resolve disputes or prevent abuse. Messages sent through the Contact page are kept only as long as needed to answer you and to keep a record of the conversation.
9. How we protect it
We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards to protect your information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. No online service can be completely secure, so we also ask you to help:
- Choose a strong password that you do not use anywhere else.
- Do not share your password with anyone. Provewise staff will never ask you for it.
- If you forget your password, use the “Forgot password” option on the sign-in page to reset it by email.
- Sign out on shared or public devices.
- If you think your account has been accessed without your permission, tell us straight away through the Contact us page.
10. Your choices and rights
You can:
- View and update your name and profile picture from your profile.
- Ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct information that is wrong or out of date.
- Ask us to delete your account and the personal information linked to it.
- Withdraw consent you gave us, or object to certain uses of your information.
To make a request, use the Contact us page and choose the topic that fits best. For your protection we may need to confirm that the request comes from the owner of the account before we act on it. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
11. Children
Provewise is meant for learners aged 18 and over, or younger learners using it with a parent’s or guardian’s permission. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please tell us and we will delete it.
12. Cookies and similar technologies
We use browser storage that is necessary to keep you signed in and to remember your display preferences. Details are in our Cookie Policy.
13. Links to other websites
Provewise may link to other websites. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices, so please read their policies before you share information with them.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make an important change we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, let you know in the service or by email. Using Provewise after a change means you accept the updated policy.
15. Contact us
If you have a question about this policy or how we handle your information, please reach us through the Contact us page. We aim to reply within a reasonable time.
